It was reported that at least 18 people died and dozens disappeared as a result of heavy rains that lasted all day 2 days ago in the state of Kerala in the south of India.
According to the news of Hindustan Times, flash floods and landslides occurred after heavy rains that were effective in the state. At least 18 people lost their lives in the disaster that occurred as a result of the rains, and dozens of people went missing.
The National Disaster Response Force and the Indian Army are supporting search and rescue efforts in the disaster areas of Kottayam and Idukki, where death toll is feared to increase. Authorities shared the information that the rainfall decreased, and aid and rescue operations continued.
Amit Shah, the Minister of Interior stated that the government is monitoring the situation in Kerala and will provide all possible support.
In 2018, 223 people died in Kerala due to heavy rains and hundreds of thousands of people were forced to leave their homes.
