25-year-old woman, Kader İşçi, applied to the doctor 9 months ago with a complaint of bloating. The young woman who thought she was pregnant was actually diagnosed 9 months later. It was understood that Kader İşçi had an ovarian tumor. A full 20 kilos tumor was removed from the abdomen of the İşçi who was operated on 15 days ago.
While living in Tunceli Kader İşçi, who applied to the doctor with a complaint of bloating, first thought she was pregnant with her second child, as she continued to gain weight rapidly. However, the pregnancy test came back negative. She was told that the bloating could be caused by an infection, and she was treated for a urinary tract infection for a while. As her complaints did not end, indigestion was added to her bloating, and she began to have difficulties in maintaining her daily life.
Her weight increased from 55 to 91
The diagnosis was made months later after the MRI was taken in Manisa province. It was determined that a giant mass of 35-40 cm in diameter was found in the ovaries of İşçi, who weighed from 55 kilos to 91 kilos in 7 months.
Then İşçi applied to Assoc. Dr. Taylan Senol Gynecological Oncology Specialist in İstanbul. She was immediately taken to surgery and regained her health.
“WE DON’T SEE SUCH CASES SO FREQUENTLY IN THE LITERATURE”
Pointing out that it is very easy to diagnose ovarian cysts after they reach very large sizes, however, the initial bloating can be confused with complaints such as gas and indigestion, Assoc. Dr. Şenol said: “When these patients go to gynaecological oncology physicians, it is usually easier to diagnose. We very rarely come across giant cysts as in Kader’s case, in the literature. Kader’s cyst is quite large and may be uniquely listed in the literature.”
“I DID NOT BLOATED THAT MUCH EVEN WHEN I WAS PREGNANT.”
Kader İşçi noted that her complaints started 7 months ago and gave the following information: “Normally, I was a person weighing 55-60 kilograms. My stomach started to bloat gradually. At first, I thought I was pregnant, but tests came as negative then the pain added. I went to the doctor, they said it was an infection at first. They thought it might be a urinary tract infection. Then it was said that it might be from constipation. I went to another doctor, and he made a similar diagnosis. I weighed up to 91 kilos at that time. I gave up going to the doctor, I stopped because my hopes were gone. I went to Manisa, an obstetrician asked for an MRI. The pain was starting to become unbearable. A mass was detected as a result of this MRI. It was about 35 inches in size. After that, we came to Dr. Taylan Senol. He explained how he would perform the surgery and then I had my surgery. I was 91 kilos on the day I entered the surgery, now I am 64 kilos. When I came out of surgery, my weight decreased to 71 kilograms.
I could not go out in any way, I could not sleep, I could not eat, I locked myself in the room, I could only lie down. I couldn’t even get comfortable back then. I didn’t experience any of these even during my pregnancy. Now my life has changed a lot, now I can move, walk, do whatever I want.”
