Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for peaceful reunification with Taiwan.
Speaking at an event in Beijing commemorating the 110th anniversary of the Chinese Revolution, Xi Jinping said: “Unification between China and Taiwan must happen, peaceful reunification is in the interest of the entire Chinese nation, including Taiwanese citizens.”
Xi Jinping expressed his view that the separatists seeking independence in Taiwan are the biggest obstacle to the reunification of the homeland and continued: “No one should underestimate the determination, will and strong ability of the Chinese people to defend their national sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
Recently, China reacted harshly to the news that US special forces were secretly training the Taiwanese army. 52 warplanes of the Chinese Air Force flew over Taiwan’s airspace last week for “intimidation”.
