64-year-old Ahmet Hulusi Ateşonğun was battered by a police officer on September 8th at Ankara Çankaya during a ride with his daughter, the claimed reason behind was that he warned the police against the risks of a possible crash due to the sudden appearance of the police. Police officer broke one of Hulusi Ateşonğun’s arms after the warning.
The officer also used a pepper gas on Hulusi Ateşonğun while breaking his arm. The 64-year-old Ateşonğun has had an angio recently and is a COPD sufferer; Ateşonğun fainted after the incident and was taken to the hospital. The photographs taken by the daughter in the scene of incident were deleted by the police officers forcefully. The victim made an allegation against the officers to the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office.
‘Battery by police officer’ was taken to the parliament
Levent Gök, CHP Ankara Deputy, stated about this brutal incident in the parliament and inquired Süleyman Soylu, secretary of the interior, if the police officer will continue his duty or not:
“It is obligatory for this incident to be taken to the court. Has the investigation been started yet? The degree of the brutality and forcefully deleting the photographs from the daughter Ebru Ateşonğun’s phone should be questioned and taken to the court. Will there be another investigation as to forcefully interfering a phone?”
