It has been announced that the island where the US base will be established is the Samothraki Island, 7 miles from Gökçe Island. It was announced that the decision was taken on the grounds that it is close to Alexandroupoli (Evros) and has a geographical position to follow the passage of the Russian navy through the Dardanelles.
